Jonathan Meiburg has just announced the release of his next Shearwater record titled Jet Plane and Oxbow !! I had the pleasure of touring all throughout 2014 as a member of the Jonathan’s band taking us across the states and all through Europe. What good times we had ! After the tours settled down Jonathan asked me if I would lay down some supportive voices on a handful of songs for his (then upcoming) album. In no way do I a feature on any of these songs, Jonathan has got it more than covered but my timbres can be sensed peppered throughout the album. It was a real treat to play a part !! Jonathan and his producer Danny Reisch are two of my favourite people on God’s green earth

Read about it hear on Pitchfork.

    Hello Good People !!

Well, Its turning to Autumn again !!! My goodness gracious !! Amazing how time is flying by !!! This year, as planned has held much creative on the home front for me. Ive made a couple records , done some fun side projects , played some festivals and am working on renovating the house that I am living in !!! Its been some time since i sent a letter to you all. I thought i should reach out, say hello and update the curious.

Hoop What Happened ? Hoop What’s UP ?

    UK Festivals
One more Festival for Hoop !!!

I play Ramsbottom Festival Sept 19th http://ramsbottomfestival.com/ This could very well be my last gig of 2015 !! I am playing a solo set and really looking forward to it !! Festival Season this year was great fun !! I brought my band to Latitude, Kendall Calling and L Fest. UK festivals environments are basically states of madness… and mud !!

Jesca Hoop & Iron and Wine Album of Duets I have mentioned a couple times in the past that I co-wrote an album of duets with Sam Beam aka Iron and Wine http://www.ironandwine.com/. We recorded this album in March up in Portland Oregon with producer Tucker Martine http://www.florarecording.com/ with a sublime cast of musicians ( whom I shall reveal at a later date). The recording process took 10 fun filled days. Making records is for me one of the most satisfying processes as the exploration of the songs unfold their discoveries into living breathing records. A surprise every time !!! I do believe our entire cast was overwhelmed with joy by the end. Both Sam and I having worked so hard to write the tunes, were especially overjoyed to hear the songs come to life … and its ummm Fucking Beautiful !! Since then the record has been mixed and is now in the process of being set up for release with rough aim of early 2016 !! I shall keep you posted !! Hoop’s ‘ Memories Are Now’ My Solo record which I recorded producer and friend Blake Mills http://www.blakemillsonline.com/ has been mixed and is also being set up for release. I have named this album Memories Are Now. Its a very stark record but energetic, emotional and poetic work. Memories Are Now is my new baby and the apple of my eye !! Again, the joy and satisfaction and pride that I walked away with when I finally had the mixes in my happy little hands is long lasting !! I will disclose more about this work as the release approaches !!

    Hoop and Fingathing

I joined up with Manchester band Fingathing to do a cover of disco classic I Feel Love originally by Donna Summers. Its harder to sing than you might think !!! Big Lungs !!

Its been released on a compilation put out by label Tru Thoughts .. check it !!

    Hoop in VR with Filmatics

I worked with the film company Filmaticshttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Filmatics/406659752795991?fref=tsto record the song Ribbon Bow for a film they are shooting in Virtual Reality. VR is a very exciting new medium and technology that I am sure will become hugely popular !! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_reality. The potential is limitless !! Filmatics is creating a seance in VR … ummm RAD …. of which will feature my version of Ribbon Bow. Did I mention that the Ditty Bops since BV’s on Ribbon Bow ? https://www.facebook.com/TheDittyBops/photos_stream

Hoop on All Shook UP w Marc Riley I appeared on Marc Rileys http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00c72y1 new online series All Shook Up http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p02srs4j/all-shook-up-the-wytches-jesca-hoop-richard-dawson And here one that didnt make the show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rriuKq7hTE Hoop the Roofer As far as the house is concerned… I can see the sky from my shower… I better get back up on that roof !!! The Manchester rain is coming…. as usual !!!!

Ok folks that is all for now !! Autumn is my favourite of seasons !! I hope you enjoy its bounty in crispness, coolness and colours and may your baskets weigh heavy with harvest !!

LP4 is what I call it for now as it does not yet have a proper name. Although it feels like a 1st, I have recorded my 4th studio album !! This one is a slow cooker. I want you all to know that the work is simmering over a slow steady fire and will be made available when the time is right. Patience is a virtue and all good things to those who wait (note to self). I look forward to telling you more about it as the release comes near.

Hello Good People! It has been a relatively quiet summer with most of my work happening at home. Home improvements and the final stages of a new record fill my cup as of late. I have been experimenting with weather control as I mix versions of my new record play through my studio speakers. I should apologise to Manchester for the hail we experienced in the middle of a hot summer’s day… too much high end on the vocal. Of course Manchester is not on a fault line… there was just a bit too much low end on that bass drum! Rumble!!!!! Yes, I’ve got some explaining to do. Then there is some work of a collaborative and secret nature that has my imagination stretching in search of edible melodies and evocative phrases. I look forward to the time when I can reveal this collaboration to you all, my dear listeners. So it is a divining rod pulling me here and there, rather than an aeroplane at the moment. But this insular mode can only last so long as the plane ticket is staring me in the face, and I must fly again…

At the end of this month, I will be joining Iron & Wine for the 5th Annual Midwives Benefit in Austin, Texas. The benefit directly benefits a foundation called Mercy in Action. To read more about it, please follow this link .

There are also a couple of Manchester events for my people in my home town!! Manchester Pride, which I am very much looking forward to. I believe the event is being performed only by women…which is fun for us gals, but not so much for the boys. So we will have a chance to bring the boys in with the Undressed Festival in August, which I am headlining on the second day.

Then we have a festival in Denmark – I love playing in Denmark!!

And look … more dates with Iron & Wine… this time around Europe, as well as a few stateside dates.
So go ahead, and have a gander. Follow the link to buy a ticket for a show near you!!

    Hello Good People!!

Here we are and it is summertime! The spring carried me through a whirlwind of touring across the United States, to the UK and through Europe. I joined Shearwater as 5th member of the band and tried my hand at a bit of keyboards and percussion, as well as adding dark, dramatic, low vocals underneath front-man Jonathan Meiburg’s sung poetry. For anyone who does not know them, Shearwater is a rock band so performing this music was a great change of pace for me! I was working double-time as I opened the shows myself as well. In a gap between Shearwater dates I did my own tour through the UK in support of my latest release, ‘Undress’. It was wonderful to sing for so many lovely faces. Thank you all for coming! I feel quite fortunate. So now I am back in a writing phase at home in Manchester as I have a new record in the pipeline! I recorded it over the New Year and it is in mixing stages now…. All new tunes… very exciting!

Until festival season I am home scaling the walls of my imagination, searching for new melodies and new ways to put things.

And so I thought I would send along the latest Hoop gossip. You know, bits of talk from my tours etc.

Enjoy the summer folks (as it begins to rain in my grey Manchester garden)!

    More to come,

    Ms Hoop x

The sun is shining here in my Manchester home and all is well.
We are into the spring now, and I can tell we are all feeling the promise of more sunshine! My winter was the exact opposite of what winter is intended for … I had no time for hibernating, I was like the bear turned inside out!! So, what’s been happening? And what’s still to come?
