Record Store Day 2013:
Hoop released a rare and limited edition of Phonograph on 7” blue vinyl for this year’s Record Store Day, to great success! If you missed out on making it down to your local Record Store on this year’s Record Store Day, there may still be some copies available to buy online. Thanks to everyone who went out to support their local Record Store this year!
“It was a Big Day at Scotti’s Record Store New Jersey ;) – Thanks to everyone who turned up!”Meanwhile, Jesca is currently woodshedding her new record.
Shuggie Otis Tour 2013:
Jesca has recently returned from touring around the U.S. with the wonderful Shuggie Otis, and would like to convey the following message:
“I sincerely enjoyed travelling alongside Shuggie Otis and his band of family and friends. It was a joy to get to know the Otis gang and to play for Shuggie’s audience night after night! I had the great pleasure of meeting and enjoying a great many interactions with the Shuggie’s fans which for me was one of the tour highlights!! It was a real surprise to be asked to open for Shuggie Otis as my music is possibly the furthest kind from funk as one could imagine. I was touched by the warm reception from Shuggie’s audience especially because I am sure many of them were not expecting a musician like myself to open his show. So to the Shuggie fans…Thanks for making it great!”
The kind folks at Lost in Concert and Brooklyn Vegan have written the following reviews of the shows:

‘Ode to Banksy’ single released today!
Jesca Hoop releases her third single from ‘The House That Jack Built‘, ‘Ode To Banksy today, 4th March. watch the video here :
http://www.jescahoop.com/video
Ode To Banksy pays homage to the internationally renowned street artist and man of mystery as well as being a lament to the loss of Banksy’s anonymity – “I’ve been a fan of Banksy for ages” explains Jesca “This song is a splatter of inspirations that i have gathered from his pieces round the world. There are 4 or 5 specific pieces that inform the lyrics. I named the song Ode To Banksy because, as a huge fan , I much prefer to keep the mystery of his identity alive…and while I was writing the song there were big press blasts to reveal his identity… which i ignored. I’ll keep him masked thank you! This song is like pop art itself…for arts sake, I am also a big a fan of Bobbie Gentry and her song Ode to Billie Joe is a long time favourite of mine… the thought of the death of a great intrigue gave me a good excuse to write my own Ode.”
Jesca’s 2012 album The House That Jack Built has been the recipient of outstanding reviews across the board – including Sunday Times CD Of The Week – and two playlisted singles at 6music. The album showcases Jesca’s unflinching tendency to pull focus from widescreen to close-up. Part siren song, part grim warning, it achieves a perspective-warping balance between the haunting intimacy of Hoop’s delivery and an unconfined air of horizon-scanning grandeur from the outset.

Hello my beautiful ears,
Happy 2013 everyone ! I honestly can’t believe how quickly 2012 passed. I hope the past year was ever more kind to you all than the last. I want to extend a big warm thank you to all you who showed your support to my musical efforts as it was a very industrious year for me. I received an overwhelming amount of positive messages and feedback from my dear listeners and each message fanned my slow flame into moments of bonfire. Your kind words are real currency in this field. Thank you for supporting The House That Jack Built and for attending my shows. I do so love my chosen role and am very grateful to be given the opportunity by you to continue. And so lets do !
My very Best to you all

4 Days Left To Pledge: The deadline for Jesca’s Pledgemusic campaign is fast approaching, so if you’re interested in getting involved, now is the time to act ! Pledgemusic.com is a platform allowing fans to directly help fund releases, and Hoop’s forthcoming release ‘The Complete Kismet Acoustic’ is featured on there this month. This album features all the songs from her 2007 debut studio album ‘Kismet’ in a stripped down, bare bones fashion captured in live performance. Retaining four of the songs that formed the Kismet Acoustic EP, she now completes the batch with the remaining 6 songs from her debut record ‘as live’ recordings. This acoustic simplistic incarnation re-evokes the combination of two acoustic guitars and three voices that represents many of her live performances. Added to this are two previously unheard tracks – Paradise and Worried Mind. You can Pledge for a number of exclusive signed material/releases, and pledge options start at just £8. All Pledgers gain access to an archive of exclusive updates, including an exclusive preview of the video for ‘Silverscreen’, a free download of that track, artwork, video messages, dreams & even recipes ! 10% of all proceeds go towards the charity The Voice Project, helping to reunite African child soldiers with their families. Thanks to all for your great feedback ! New Single ‘Ode To Banksy’ out Mar 4th On March 4th Hoop will be releasing her new single ‘Ode To Banksy’ from her latest studio album ‘The House That Jack Built’. The song pays homage to the renowned street artist and man of mystery as well as being a lament to the loss of his anonymity: “I’ve been a fan of Banksy for ages” explains Jesca. “This song relates to his art as though it is a soundtrack commentary as we tour his pieces around the world. I named the song ‘Ode To Banksy’ because, as a huge fan, I would have preferred to keep the mystery of his identity alive… and while I was writing the song there was a big press blast revealing his identity. I’ll keep him masked, thank you ! This song is like pop art itself… for art’s sake. I have also always been a fan of Bobbie Gentry and her song Ode to Billie Joe is a long time favourite of mine, I think the ‘ode’ needs to be a resurrected song form !” Keep your eyes peeled for the new video which was filmed at Christmas time…

My beautiful ears,
2012 has been a busy year ! I have spent it in a flurry of full bloom industry, from the writing room to the studio to stages all around the world and every step in between ! I released my third full-length record ‘The House That Jack Built’ back in June. The writing of ‘Jack’ was a very isolated and emotional process as you may imagine from listening. It was a real growing and enlivening experience developing these songs and their arrangements with my dear friends in LA. To hear them treated with such care, enthusiasm and musical intelligence was deeply satisfying, not to mention exciting !! It’s been so great to meet and hear from those of you that love listening to it as much as I loved making it. Thank you for all of your kind words and positive feedback. I’ve enjoyed playing some great live shows this year: earlier in the year I toured around the US East Coast and the Southern states with the über-charmed neo-bluegrass group Punch Brothers. We drank gorgeous whiskeys from every oak barrel in the South ! (The ‘Penicillin’ has made it to #1 as my favourite cocktail thanks to Chris Thile). Then toured the US, the UK and Europe with my own band – thank you to everyone who came to see us and helped to make those events such fun. Then I completed my touring for the year by heading out to Europe with the world’s most talented & lovable ‘rock nerds’, the excellent Shearwater . I got to visit Zurich (gorgeous) & Budapest (awesome) for the first time, and ended with a whole week in France (just fabulous). If you so wish, you can check out some live reviews here. I may have finished touring for 2012, but Hoop HQ is still a hive of activity: I am running my first Pledge Music campaign, to raise funds to produce an acoustic rendition of the entirety of my first record, entitled ‘The Complete Kismet Acoustic’. You can purchase the album in advance here. 10% of all money pledged goes to The Voice Project, a peace movement inspired by the mothers of child soldiers in Uganda and aimed at using music as an agent of conflict transformation. I’ve also had lots of fun filling in for my good friend Guy Garvey presenting his radio show on BBC 6music, you can check out the playlist from my last stint here. To mark the release of The Complete Kismet Acoustic in January, I will be staging a special an online live show for you to enjoy from the comfort & warmth of your own home, stay tuned for details. After that I will be touring the UK and the USA in the spring and heading to South By Southwest in March. And that’s 2012 in a nutshell ! Thanks again for all your support. If you haven’t got your copy of ‘The House That Jack Built ‘ yet, there are signed vinyl & CDs available here and all records are available at the official webstores. In the meantime you can check out the videos for the first two singles from the record: ‘Born To’ directed by Anna Gabriel, and ‘Hospital (Win Your Love)’, a candy-coated dance video directed by Elia Petridis (that was so much fun to make) Happy holidays everyone !! Hoop is getting ready to kick off a west coast tour in support of her new album The House That Jack Built. Before she departs, Jesca is sharing the video for album track “Hospital (Win Your Love)”. Watch it here! (and feel free to post and share!) The surreal dance video, filled with sprinkles lipstick, pigtails and hospital gowns, depicts Hoop as an overgrown child and hospital patient, offering a whimsical take on the pain caused by venturing down memory lane. Hospital (Win Your Love) tackles “a human quality that causes us to crave injury”. As Jesca explains “I recall daydreaming as a child about going to the hospital and fantasizing about the way my family would cater to me if I were to come home with a broken arm, or how cool I would look to my peers if i showed up at school with a black eye!” -

My new album ‘The House That Jack Built’ is out 25th June ! We made a movie to tell you all about it, you can watch it on my VIDEOS page (up there, see? —-^) and you can read all about it here !
.................................................................Jesca Hoop returns with her third album The House That Jack Built on her own label on June 25th 2012.
The House That Jack Built deftly showcases its author’s unflinching tendency to pull focus from widescreen to close-up. Part siren song, part grim warning, it achieves a perspective-warping balance between the haunting intimacy of Hoop’s delivery and an unconfined air of horizon-scanning grandeur from the outset – tempestuous, moodily melodic opener ‘Born To’ shares this striking duality with later highlights ‘When I’m Asleep’, ‘Peacemaker’ and ‘Deeper Devastation’.
It arrives with more than a few splashes on its hands. Life and death; light and dark; sex and war; head and heart: The House That Jack Built offers up as much in celebration of the macabre as it does in mistrust of the familiar, with a twist of humour. It’s steeped in an allusion to biology, nature and humanity, but drops precious few clues as to whether its next rush of imagery is set to beguile or repel.
The follow up to 2009’s universally critically acclaimed Hunting My Dress, the new recording is a co-production between Jesca Hoop and three other producers – “ a drop of blood in the can from each of us rendered a more radical sound” says Hoop – and this visceral album will open a whole new world of listeners to Jesca’s music. Returning to Tony Berg’s Zeitgeist Studio in Los Angeles, where she recorded Hunting My Dress, Jesca enlisted old friends Shawn Everett, Blake Mills and Tony Berg himself as her co-producers. Says Hoop, “What a combination of minds, these three men & me. It was a real balancing act with tensions pulling toward one or the other. Striking that balance was the ticket to some of the most elevated moments in my musical collaborations to date.”
Admitting that writing the record was an often an insular, isolating experience – “I spent days and days without leaving the house and having zero contact with others” Hoop found herself exploring topics as diverse as Greek tragedies (Peacemaker), street artist Banksy (Ode To Banksy) and her often turbulent relationship with her father (DNR and the album’s title track).
Born To – the first single from the album – asks a question we’ve all asked ourselves “how is it that I was born into the circumstances I was born into. How is it some of us are born into famine and others into unimaginable wealth”. In Hospital (Win Your Love) she tackles “a human quality that causes us to crave injury” recalling childhood memories and on Deeper Devastation – her favourite song on the record – a fear of infidelity, this song Hoop says “is about accepting nature and learning to trust”.
Elsewhere, Pack Animal and Dig This Record find Hoop spinning very different threads to equally hypnotic effect. Throughout Hoop’s stone-turning observations remain mired in the equal beauty and violence of nature, hers is a nature red in tooth and claw.
Since self-releasing Hunting My Dress, Jesca Hoop has continued her knack for collecting fans in high places. Having been endorsed by Elbow’s Guy Garvey, she’s joined Eels on their US and European tour in 2011 and was invited by Peter Gabriel to sing backing vocals for his David Letterman and Jools Holland TV performances, and support and duet with him on his South American tour last year. With the release of The House That Jack Built, Jesca is set to pick up a host of new fans, high profile or not.
