Jesca Hoop is a Californian singer-songwriter whose musical influences range from modern folk to timeless balladeering. Raised by strict Mormon parents, as a child she performed in a theatre built in her basement. She's worked as a nanny to Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan's children, which proved an education on several levels. Hoop's toured with Polyphonic Spree, Elbow, Mark Knopfler, and in 2009 with Greg Laswell. Her self-released album Hunting My Dress was released in November last year to huge critical acclaim and heavy rotation on BBC 6 Music. The Observer noted after her sell-out show in London that Jesca, 'spins a balance between play and poignancy, complexity and catchiness without breaking a thread'. Her single Feast of the Heart is out now.
